Brian Clifford claims to fight for Republican voters, yet he ignored them when it mattered most. He blocked District 10 Republicans from having a say in their commissioner, then appointed a rejected candidate. Now, he pretends to defend voting rights. Hypocrisy exposed!
Brian Clifford is calling on Republicans to help him “STOP insiders from canceling Republican primary elections” in Williamson County. Yet, just months ago, he personally shut down Republican voters when they asked for a say in who would represent them in District 10.

Let’s rewind to July 2024, when Clifford and the County Commission were asked to wait just two weeks before appointing a replacement for the District 10 County Commissioner. The Williamson County Republican Party (WCRP) had announced plans for a District 10 Republican convention, allowing voters in the district to express their will on who should represent them. This wouldn’t have prevented the commission from making the appointment—it simply would have provided them with guidance from the actual Republican voters in District 10.
But Brian Clifford said NO.
Along with the rest of the establishment commissioners, he voted against deferring the appointment and refused to hear from the people he now claims to care so much about. Instead, Clifford and the establishment installed Cheryl Brown as District 10 Commissioner—despite the fact that she had been overwhelmingly rejected by Republican voters just a year earlier.
🔹 The Will of the Voters? Ignored.
- In April 2023, Cheryl Brown lost her bid for Republican leadership by a 2-to-1 margin.
- In August 2024, she was once again soundly defeated at the Republican nominating convention—by the same 2-to-1 margin (153-78).
- Yet, Brian Clifford voted to appoint her anyway.
- As a County Commissioner, Brian Clifford voted YES to appoint Cheryl Brown, despite constituents—Republicans and Democrats alike—asking to let the people of District 10 decide who should represent them.
But it’s the most recent convention that is the most telling of all and may help you understand the current uproar about the pending reorganization convention on March 4th.
The County Commission had an open seat for District 10 due to the retirement of long-time commissioner, David Landrum. In typical fashion—often called the Williamson County Two-Step—his resignation was strategically timed so that certain members of the County Commission (the established players) had their replacement in mind. Despite many Republicans across the county wanting to hold the appointment and allow a special election, the commission appointed… you guessed it... Cheryl Brown (as we now know, hand-picked by Jack Johnson).
Yes, remember her? The same Cheryl Brown that was ousted as chair of the party in 2023 by a margin of 2 to 1.
For months, Cheryl Brown held power without the backing of the Republican voters in her district. Clifford’s vote ensured that the voices of District 10 Republicans did not matter in the decision-making process.
Now, Clifford is on social media pretending to be a champion of Republican voters, urging people to show up on March 4th to “protect your right to vote.” But where was that energy when it actually mattered? When Republicans in District 10 asked for just two weeks to hold a convention and make their voices heard, Clifford dismissed them outright.
This is the height of hypocrisy. Brian Clifford was fine ignoring Republican voters when it suited him, but now that he can use it as a political talking point, he wants to rally the troops. Tennessee Republicans deserve better than establishment politicians who only care about 'voter rights' when it benefits them.
On March 4th, when Clifford claims to be standing up for the people—remember what he did when the people of District 10 actually asked him to listen.
