Sex Therapist Teaches Family Life Curriculum at Legacy Middle School, Raises Alarms for Parents

A Williamson County middle school guidance counselor is also a sex therapist specializing in LGBTQIA+ and kink-affirming therapy. Parents are demanding answers from WCS after learning she facilitated the Family Life curriculum to 11–13-year-olds.

UPDATE: As of this publishing there has not been another response from Williamson County Schools HR department.

A Family Life letter sent to parents of Legacy Middle School students in Williamson County has triggered new scrutiny from concerned parents—scrutiny that ultimately led to the discovery that the facilitator of the school’s sex education unit is also a practicing sex therapist with a professional focus on LGBTQIA+ and kink-affirming counseling.

Kristin Trudeau, a guidance counselor at Legacy Middle School, is also the founder of Franklin Teletherapy, where she offers private therapy sessions for clients navigating sexual identity, polyamory, kink, trauma, and more. Her own website and public-facing social media describe her as a nonjudgmental, sex-positive therapist who embraces alternative lifestyles—including consensual non-monogamy and BDSM practices.

The district’s Family Life letter informed parents that the Williamson County Health Department would deliver sex education to students on May 15–16, and that the content would be separated by biological sex. However, after a biological male who identifies as a transgender girl was reportedly allowed to sit in with the girls’ portion of the material—despite parental objections—parents began asking: Who exactly was facilitating this instruction?

That question led to the discovery of Trudeau’s outside occupation as a sex therapist. Her counseling website includes references to treating issues such as erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, kink exploration, polyamorous relationship dynamics, and sex-related trauma. One blog post reads, “Let’s strip it down and talk about it,” while an Instagram post celebrates National Coming Out Day with commentary on why heterosexuality is assumed by default.

Williamson County Schools has offered no answers as to whether they vetted Trudeau’s outside work—or whether they believe such a background is suitable for a middle school guidance counselor. The school system's silence suggests either a lack of due diligence or an unwillingness to admit what kind of material is being indirectly promoted under the guise of mental health support and curriculum facilitation.

TruthWire News submitted a series of direct questions to WCS Executive Director of Communications Carol Birdsong, including:

·       Was WCS aware of Trudeau’s sex therapy practice prior to hiring?

·       Was that background disclosed during the interview process?

·       Was it deemed relevant or irrelevant to working with children aged 11–13?

·       Why was a biological male allowed in a biologically segregated session despite objections?

·       What qualifies someone to facilitate the Family Life Curriculum?

Birdsong’s only response: The email had been forwarded to Human Resources. No one from HR has responded.

In Williamson County, the job description for an elementary school counselor—which applies to the middle school level—includes duties like managing student placement, assisting with goal development, and supporting social and emotional learning. Among their key responsibilities is counseling students on “academically, socially, and emotionally” related matters, developing lessons on topics like bullying, leadership, or coping with divorce, and coordinating with community agencies.

This is exactly where parental trust gets breached. While emotional support is a valid part of student services, the social-emotional role at the elementary level opens the door to moral and ideological content that many families believe has no place in public education. Issues of sexuality, identity, and personal belief systems are inseparable from the values taught in the home. These aren't just therapeutic talking points—they're worldview-shaping topics. And when public schools begin inserting themselves into those spaces under the guise of "emotional wellness," it becomes a boundary-crossing intrusion. These conversations belong in the home, not in a taxpayer-funded counseling office with a therapist whose private practice celebrates kink and sexual identity exploration.

According to Tennessee law, Family Life curriculum is permitted for grades 6–8 and in high school Lifetime Wellness courses, but parents may opt out. Topics include reproduction, anatomy, child abuse prevention, abstinence, and other areas considered “developmental.”

But that’s not the point.

The core concern is not about opting out—it’s about who is being allowed in.

When a district allows someone whose private counseling practice specializes in adult sexual behaviors and kink lifestyles to work closely with 11- and 12-year-olds, parents have a right to demand transparency, answers, and accountability.

Parents Deserve Transparency, Not Deflection

The public deserves to know whether district officials considered this a conflict of interest. Was Trudeau’s role evaluated based on the psychological needs of adolescents, or was it simply rubber-stamped because she met credential checkboxes?

This is not a question of personal identity or free expression. This is about professional boundaries and whether children are being exposed—directly or indirectly—to ideologies or lifestyles that most families would consider inappropriate in a public school setting.
