Thirteen girls at Legacy Middle School reportedly opted out of a Family Life class after a biological male identifying as female was allowed in the female session. Parents say the district misled families and dismissed concerns.

According to email correspondence and firsthand accounts from parents and students, thirteen seventh-grade girls at Legacy Middle School in Williamson County reportedly opted out of a state-mandated Family Life Curriculum presentation earlier this month after a biological male identifying as female was allegedly allowed to participate in the female-designated session.
Additionally, it was reported that the boy is also allowed to use the girls restroom facilities while at school.
The school’s advance notice to families stated that students would be separated “by gender” for the instructional sessions, which covered topics such as reproductive anatomy, personal boundaries, and abuse prevention. Nowhere in the communication was it indicated that “gender” would be interpreted to mean anything other than biological sex. According to sources, when the girls discovered a biological male would be participating in the female group, they chose to leave—without notice, preparation, or any opportunity to speak with their parents in advance.
Parents say the girls acted respectfully and independently, navigating a sensitive and uncomfortable situation with maturity. However, rather than being offered a meaningful alternative, the students were reportedly placed in the office of school counselor Kristen Trudeau. Sources report that Trudeau appeared visibly and verbally annoyed by their presence, and that some of the girls who requested to speak with Principal Alicia Justice were told they would need to schedule an appointment.
In an email reviewed by TruthWire News, Principal Justice acknowledged that the girls had opted out and stated she understood their reasons. She did not deny the presence of the biological male in the session, which parents interpreted as an implicit confirmation. While she expressed regret that the students felt uncomfortable, families assert that no direct apology or correction has been made.
Superintendent Jason Golden, in follow-up communications with parents, referred to the incident as a “mistake” and a product of “human error.” He stated that procedures would be reviewed and revised to prevent a recurrence and that the district’s Human Resources and Secondary Schools teams were investigating. However, after our initial report was issued last week, Golden reportedly told at least one Williamson County school board member that TruthWire News’ reporting was “factually incorrect”—a claim not substantiated by any evidence and not followed by a public clarification. As of this writing, no parent or student involved in the incident has reported being contacted as part of that investigation.
Compounding concerns among parents is the professional background of counselor Kristen Trudeau. In addition to her role at Legacy Middle, Trudeau is also a licensed sex therapist and founder of Franklin Teletherapy, where she works with adult clients on issues including LGBTQIA+ identity, sexual trauma, polyamory, and kink. Her publicly available website and professional materials describe her approach as “nonjudgmental” and “sex-positive,” with services that include support for consensual non-monogamy and BDSM practices.
This information has prompted serious questions from families about whether Williamson County Schools was aware of Trudeau’s private clinical work when she was hired, whether it was disclosed during the employment process, and whether the district considers that background appropriate for someone working directly with middle school students.
Prior to the release of TruthWire News’ initial report, the following questions were submitted to WCS Executive Director of Communications Carol Birdsong:
· Was WCS aware of Kristen Trudeau’s sex therapy practice prior to or during her employment?
· Was that background disclosed or evaluated during the hiring process?
· Was it considered relevant to her role in counseling students aged 11–13?
· Why was a biological male allowed into a session designated for female students?
· Have the students who opted out been interviewed as part of the district’s investigation?
As of publication, the district’s Human Resources department has not responded to those questions.
“This isn’t about intolerance,” said one parent involved. “It’s about truth and trust. Our daughters were told one thing, experienced another, and were left to make an incredibly difficult decision alone. Then when they did, they were treated like the problem.”
This article is based on documented email exchanges with school officials and firsthand accounts from those directly involved. While TruthWire News was not present at the time of the events and cannot independently verify every detail, the consistency of the records and reports supports the families’ account.
The thirteen girls who opted out were not disruptive. They asked for nothing more than the environment they were promised—a biologically segregated space for discussing sensitive topics. When that environment was altered without warning or consent, they quietly removed themselves.
District leadership, on the other hand, has yet to provide answers, accountability, or direct engagement with the very students affected. The situation remains unresolved, and the families involved say they will not allow it to be ignored.
That this situation unfolded in deep-red Williamson County is not just ironic—it’s revealing. For years, the county has prided itself on projecting an image of conservative stability and traditional values, often favoring the appearance of order over the uncomfortable work of confronting inconvenient truths. But this incident—and the district’s response to it—lays bare a deeper issue: a reluctance to disrupt the polished facade, even when doing so means sidelining the very students and families those values are supposed to protect. In Williamson County, it seems, preserving the illusion of conservative perfection still takes precedence over accountability.
